International audienceIn writing a " cover version " of the myth of Atlas, Winterson also alludes to the story of his brother, Prometheus. This article examines how the author rearranges the key elements of the story and injects fresh material into the existing myth; how she adapts the ancient myth to a 21 st century reading public, especially through a provocative and innovative use of language and parody. Winterson's gory version of Prometheus' punishment is tinted with mockery. The humanized Gods have a sense of humour, sexual needs and odd ideas.
